Read on to learn more about how the SOG Dermatology Collection can help to prevent and reduce the formation of stretch marks during pregnancy.

What are stretch marks and why do they occur?

Stretch marks are long narrow stripes or lines that develop on our skin when they stretch or shrink too rapidly. These lines differ from our normal skin in texture and colour and can be present anywhere in the body. However, they are commonly seen in the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and breasts. While these lines aren’t painful, they may cause significant distress leading to cosmetic concerns and anxiety for some people.

Our skin is supported by two essential proteins: collagen, and elastin. Rapid expansion or contraction of the skin leads to rupture of these peptides, with the formation of small tears in the layers of the skin, which causes the appearance of stretch marks. Rapid changes in the skin can be brought about by growth spurts in puberty, pregnancy, rapid weight gain or weight loss, and certain medical conditions. It is a fairly common occurrence, with 50-90% of women developing stretch marks during pregnancy. Stretch marks occur when the skin cannot return back to normal form after a period of sudden changes to your skin. Weight changes and pregnancy are also associated with hormonal fluctuations, which cause loss of skin firmness and elasticity, leading to dry and itchy skin. Long-term use of steroids on your skin can also decrease the levels of collagen, resulting in an increased tendency to develop stretch marks.

The colour of the stretch marks also varies. Newly formed lines are bright pink to red in colour and are often itchy. Over time, the colour of stretch marks changes to silver or light grey. The newly formed stretch marks respond better to treatment whereas the older ones are more difficult to remove.

To prevent and reduce the appearance of stretch marks, kickstart a regular body care routine with our SOG Dermatology Collection – Stretch Mark Control Cream and Skin Firming Oil.

Why choose our SOG Dermatology Stretch Mark Bundle?

The SOG Dermatology Stretch Mark Control Cream is a soft, buttery cream that contains a complex of essential lipids and peptides. The cream stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin, which hydrates and restores skin barrier function. The control cream strengthens, firms, and enhances the skin while reducing the formation of stretch marks. It melts and absorbs easily into the skin leaving your skin soft, supple and moisturised.

The SOG Dermatology Skin Firming Oil is a unique blend of Vitamin E, natural oils, omega fatty acids, and antioxidants. This complex formulation nourishes the skin and makes it firm. It enhances the elasticity of the skin leading to the reduction in the formation and appearance of stretch marks. It also improves the appearance of stretch marks that are already formed on your skin. Skin firming oil also contains regenerating and restoring properties that prevent premature ageing of the skin.

It is important to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised to prevent the appearance of stretch marks or to reduce the visibility of the already formed ones. Read on to learn more about the natural ingredients of our SOG Dermatology Collection.

What makes our product unique and effective?

The SOG Dermatology bundle contains all-natural ingredients that are fragrance-free and safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Our Stretch Mark Control Cream contains coconut and olive oils to hydrate your skin, keeping it soft and moisturized.

Enriched with the highest quality Vitamin E and omega fatty acids, our Skin Firming Oil contains natural ingredients such as grapeseed oil, jojoba seed wax, olive oil as well as sunflower oil. These ingredients work to increase skin’s elasticity, restore balance and reduce the overall formation of stretch marks.

Read on to find out more about each natural ingredient:

Jojoba Seed Wax (Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Wax) is derived from the seeds of the desert shrub. The wax is more similar to our skin’s natural sebum than other plant oils making it a non-irritant skin-conditioning agent. Jojoba wax hydrates dry skin and restores its elasticity. It is also used for healing old and new scars.

Grape Seed Oil (Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil) is a strong anti-oxidant with a cell membrane-protective effect. It promotes the absorption of moisture into the skin. Studies have shown that it can accelerate the healing process and can lighten the appearance of scars.

Sunflower Oil (Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil) derives from the compression of sunflower seeds. It can nourish, replenish, soothe and strengthen the skin. It also has anti-pruritic properties, making it highly effective against itchy stretch marks that have just formed.

Olive Oil (Olea Europaea Husk Oil) is the oil extracted from olives. Olive oil is one of the most valuable types of oil for the skin as it has nourishing and moisturising properties. It is loaded with fatty acids, proteins, minerals, antioxidant polyphenols, Vitamin A, and E. Olive oil gently warms the skin and effectively regulates the moisture of the layers of skin. It is non-allergenic, hence suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Tocopherol or Vitamin E has many amazing benefits on the skin, as it contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and moisturising properties. It accelerates the healing of stretch marks, stimulating the synthesis of collagen and improving overall skin tone and appearance.
